Food to Satisfy your Cravings

Best laid plans — I had them.  I really did.  But I ran out of time.  It’s after 11 pm and the alarm will sound at 3:45 am tomorrow so that I can get up, pretend as if I can actually see clearly enough to put on my makeup, then get the hubster out of bed to drive me to the airport.  I’m headed to western New York state to spend time with a childhood friend I’ve not seen since 1967.

I always have to take a deep breath when I realize it because it’s wonderful and overwhelming all at once.

I wanted to have a recipe or two to share with you while I was gone, but I’ve been working steadily on repairing the broken links to photos in old posts whose recipes are great, actually, so I decided to share a few of those with you instead of something new — and I have quite a bit that’s new.

Maybe I’ve been too distracted about this trip, remembering some of the best years of my childhood and a friend I thought I’d lost forever.  That’s quite a bit to keep an easily distracted someone like me busy remembering and wondering about what ifs.

I’ll be gone for nearly two weeks and most likely will not have much time here, so I’ll look forward to sharing when I return.

In the meantime, you might be interested in the following:

If you’re like us and sweltering in the incredibly hot temperatures that summer has finally decided to send our way, then perhaps you’d enjoy this Ricotta and Brown Sugar Gelato.  It’s something worth skipping dinner over on a hot day if you ask me.  But I’m a bad influence.

Now, if you’re someone who’s keeping and eye on your waistline like I’ve been trying to do (and faltering lately with all that’s been going on) well, then I think you just might like this Waldorf Salad sans Mayo.  It reminds me of a sort of bridge between summer and fall salads — the apples are present, and some nice nuts, but the mayonnaise is thankfully absent which makes it a nice salad indeed.  Lots of chewing will be involved, but flavor in every perfectly loaded bite will leave you most satisfied.

On the other hand, you might be someone who enjoys sneaking around in the kitchen at night to nibble on something sweet.  I know I like to do that once in a while — especially after a day that I’ve not had quite enough to eat.  These Key Lime Blackberry Swirl Cupcakes should hit that spot.

If you have a hankering for Fall and are dying for some comfort food, then take a load off and see if you can get someone to make this Pear Gorgonzola and Walnut Rustic Tart.  It’s pretty decadent and if you’ve got a place to take it to share, it’s a show stopper that will have people sneaking the crumbs off the plate when the last piece is gone.

In the meantime, wish me luck on my journey and I’ll share some new recipes when I return.

No second helpings!
